Even in Brave New World, people are becoming excited with John whipping himself. People appear being so pleased with seeing blood and guts flying across the room. Ever since the times when the great Romans ruled, people enjoyed seeing the Christians killed by lions or by fire. Or even when people would just waste time and go see the queen get her head chopped of by an axe. Now, I understand in the Roman times, it was fear that drove the Romans to kill the Christians since it was a different and new religion. But, why kill them? Why are we so afraid of what we do not understand? Why can’t we just try to learn about things we don’t understand? It could help if we just tried, right? Still, if we can’t fully comprehend it, at least we know more than before. Are we so afraid that we just give up and “kill” what we don’t know?

I don't understand that cage fighting stuff, or even WWF, but oh wow, people love it. I was "listening" to some former students (guys) discuss those extreme fighters -- they know them by name, they know their records. Very weird.
ReplyDeleteOh, Mrs. Fletcher, I think you've taken a wrong perspective on cage fighting, aka, mma (mixed martial arts). If you actually pay close attention to mma you'll see it's one of the most dynamic sports out there. It's almost a game of chess when 2 fighters step into a cage. All the aspects of mma including striking to submissions such as an omoplata or a piruvian neck tie truly make mma somewhat of a science.

It's just true. people feed into the news to hear about who died today in japan, people pay to see horror films to be entertained by someone run for their life, and people attend funerals of their ex husbands aunts nephew's neighbors mom. I don't get it, but people get a kick out of this stuff
