Same Reaction?

At the beginning of chapter 6 on page 83 of "Amusing Ourselves to Death" Postman tells of a story where the television has helped in a difficult situation. It explains how a college student went back to his home to study for a big test when he found his lamp broken to the point where it could not be fixed. He then turns on the T.V. and sitting with his back towards it he continued to finish studying for his test. I wonder if things would have gone differently with some one today. The T.V. is very popular and entertaining. It is able to steal our attention while were doing other things. If a college student today were faced with a difficult situation like that would they be disciplined enough to resist the temptation of the T.V. if i were in a situation like that a little bit of my mind would be on the T.V. it would all depend on how serious you are about passing the class. But I do not think students today would keep one hundred percent of their attentions on their work.
