In Brave New World, Bernard finds himself to becoming famous because of the Savage that he brought back with him. With all this he loses himself in all the attention, and ends up ignoring his friend Helmholtz. But in the end when no one wants to see the Savage anymore he instantly loses the attention and fame. He then realizes that he really only had one true friend which was Helmholtz, and thus he rushes back and apologizes to Helmholtz so that way they may be friends again. So the lesson that I think Bernard learned and may be a crucial lesson today is to make sure you don't take friends for granted because you might just lose them and end up all alone. This may be related to the celebrities today where they have all this fame and fortune and it is almost impossible to tell who likes them for who they are or just for their money and fame. So even with the fame and fortune they may be happy in that sense but they could also be miserable in the fact that they dont have a true friend. Bottom line is that I think what Bernard learned about having true friends reflects in life today and that it is important to have such friends.

I agree that people should know who their true friends are. More and more people are starting to use people for their money or their fame instead of liking people for who that person is. The unfortunate thing is that many people fall for it and give everything to their so-called friend. Another thing that could happen is that the person trying to mooch off their friends is discovered for who he is and loses everything.
ReplyDeleteSean, you make a great point in stating that Bernard should've listened and stayed with his close friend Hemholtz. He just loved feeling things he never felt before so much that he did not want to listen anyone who opposed what he was going through, even his best friend. You should note that you made a mistake in saying that no one wanted to see the savage anymore. It was actually the other way around, with the savage not wanting to see anyone. He did not like this "Brave New World" or anyone in it.
ReplyDeleteCelebrities hide behind a mask of happiness, but if you look past that glamorous mask, they're pretty sad and lonely. Hollywood happiness is all a facade. If they were truly happy, would they have to go starve themselves or get caught drunk in a bar somewhere? I don't think so.
