The connection

After completing both Brave New World and Amusing Ourselves to Death I have reached the comparison. Huxley creates a future that Postman feels is nearly in effect. Between the media or the DHC blindly controlling our lives we fail to see what has become of the world. One of the main things i realized in Brave New World was how soma cured everything. The message I get from this is, whenyour down or had a bad day count on drugs to make you feel better. If this future was indeed a reality it would only be poisonous to the community. It's nearly impossible to live a "perfect" life and by making soma be the factor of happiness is unhumain. Postman seems as if he is not against televison as a whole just the unneccessary information it provides or "the news of the day." Most times we don't care whats happening thousands of miles away, it shouldn't be the news but rather information for people that want it. Huxley provides us with a scary future that could happen if we feed into society and throw common sense out the window, or replace culture and reason with stupidity and soma.
