In brave new world, everyone is anyones... no commitment, no drama, no fights...
Many people think this might be a good thing, just pleasure and no form of commitment .How would you get hurt?.. Personally i disagree, i think humanity needs to belong to something, in this case, someone... I also think that commitment isnt that terrifying, peple might say they feel trapped in relationships, but i dont get why, your a free person and can choose to do anything you want, but just remember that your actions lead to different consequences.... I also think that everyone needs a little drama in their life to make it a little more interesting haha, just kidding:P. My main thing is that feeling loved and belonging to someone is a very fullfilling feeling. Someone that you can depend on for anything, but that just brings up another topic.. Can you rely on anyone one-hundred percent? Do you truely think so?
Another topic i want to discuss is fate....Do you believe in fate? That their is that special someone for you?

Life does need a bit of drama, how else would it be worth living? I agree, I believe that someone needs to belong to someone else. The commitment-free situations might be nice since it is just pleasure, but it can't be fulfilling to not have someone there for you, not just for pleasure. I can see how people can feel 'trapped' in relationships, but isn't it that person's fault for feeling trapped? Even if you feel trapped, you can always get out of the relationship. I also agree that the feeling of love and belonging is really fulfilling, much more than being alone. However, though it is fulfilling to belong to and love someone, you can't depend on a person 100%. We are born alone and ultimately we die alone. Along the path of life we live and interact with people, but in the end we're alone and we can't take anything or anyone with us.
ReplyDeleteI believe in a fate that can be changed. Everyone has their path, but it is not ultimately destined to be. Each person can alter their fate with the decisions they made throughout life. Everyone has set paths which are altered based on the decisions they make.
Living YOUR life by someone else's standards is not living YOUR life. In Brave New World, the people are trapped inside the theory of a perfect world; free of pain and drama, commitmentment, trustworthiness, joy, and genuine love. I agree that there is somebody for someone else. Nevertheless, not everyone chooses commitment. That special 'someone' is important because one can confide anything and everything in the other. Through commitment, there exists a special bond in which feelings and doubts can be assuaged. In the book, when people are down, they take SOMA instead of talking about whatever is the matter. SOMA is a substitute for a loved one because it cannot care nor love the person who takes the drug.
ReplyDeleteI for one, believe in fate and that every one has some one special out there.
ReplyDeleteOne time i read some where that humans at first had two, heads, arms and legs, but that a greek god was angry and he split them into half, so that they would have to spend their life time in search of the person who completed them. Any way that was a long time ago and thats probably not even the way the story went, but the idea is the same, that every one has someone who completes them.
But any way, your idea of how Huxley's word of the perfect life without having drama and commitments is not really like a life at all because no one belongs to anything or any one, they basically just roam going from person to person and playing golf all thier life. I for one believe that none of this even occurs to them, that all that "soma" that they are being given is building a wall and shielding them from reality. I think that the goverment uses soma to keep them from feeling any thing but happiness and to shield them from anger, frustration and love so that they remain are able to keep complete control.
Life is full of drama and how we deal with these encounters are very important to a person character. It's true that people cannot rely on someone 100%, but we have just got to trust our instincts. Sure, commitment-free are fun and exciting, but it is not the same as knowing that someone will be there for you always. (This situation can be seen near the end of the book when a 'couple' went to visit the Savage and the guy left and ran away from the girl he came with, because the Savage was going to hit her.)
ReplyDeleteI see how people sometimes feel trapped in a relationship, but it is just because the other person probably cares about you so much that he's afraid of anything bad happening to you. Feelings of love and belonging really are fulfilling. However, I agree that one can't depend on a person 100%. ask yourself, can you really depend on yourself 100%?
