AP Bloggers 2009-10

I just finished Orwell's "Politics and the English Language." He says that overall the English language is declining, and with serious aftermath. What was interesting was that he didn't say we are ruining our language by using smaller words but quite the opposite! Orwell claims that we are over COMPLICATING our writing and speaking with unnecessary words and phrases. I myself need to try to simplify my writing cause I've been heading in the wrong direction; using longer and foreign words to try to "spice up" my writing.
His own writing was fairly easy to comprehend and he made his point very clear, which is exactly what he says we are not fulfilling by adding extra adjectives, adverbs, prefixes, and suffixes. for the most part i found myself only looking up words in the dictionary in the "bad" examples he gave us; he used smaller words whenever possible and cut out unnecessary words.
It would be difficult to remember everything in his essay but as long as i remember to not try to make myself "feel smarter" with complicated writing, I think I'll do fine.=P
